After the birth of my first child, I bought a digital camera to document his major milestones and capture our family memories. While settling into my new role as a mother, I became very interested and excited about photography. It became more than just a hobby. After a few years of independent study and practice, I realized that it was not only something that I enjoyed doing, but was a natural talent of mine. I opened The Memory Box Photography in 2009 with a focus on family portraiture. That next year, a friend of mine asked me if I would document her birth. I was honored, yet terrified. Potentially missing a moment worried me and it was outside of my comfort zone. She believed in me as a photographer and convinced me to believe in myself. So I agreed and left her birth a changed person. Documenting such a transformative and intense moment in a mother’s life sparked my passion for birth photography. I opened Hera’s Gift in 2014 to focus in on maternity, birth, and newborns. I love what I do and I’m honored to be able to provide families a gift that they can treasure.
My work has been featured in Huffington Post, Midwifery Today, and several other publications. I was also named winner of the 2012 International Association of Professional Birth Photographers Photo of Year contest.
